Happy New Year & Holy Moly!!  It's been a VERY long time since I've put anything up on my blog as I mainly post on Instagram and Facebook these days. But I think maybe I should start blogging again. I used to enjoy it so much back in the day.  So here it goes, if anyone happens to read this:

For this first "back-in-the-saddle-again post" I have a couple of new things to announce.  I have put a few new notecards up for sale on my website under the SHOP tag and under that same tag is a new link my RedBubble shop, where certain designs of mine can be printed on lots of different fun items such as t-shirts, hats, and stickers, among other things.  I'm excited to try out some new things in 2024, so let's see how it goes.  Wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year.  Are you planning any new things in 2024?

Oh boy . . . so maybe I didn't get back on track after my last post.  But this time . . . I'm really going to try.  Things have seemed to have settled down (fingers crossed) . . . so hopefully I can get back into a blogging routine.  I'm sure you understand.  Sometimes life just gets in the way and something needs to give.  For me, it's been the blog.  

This little painting is of a side street off the center of downtown on Nantucket Island.  What a charming place to visit with lots and lots of beautiful scenery to paint.

The older I get, the longer it takes me to get back on track. Whew! During the past couple months I've been painting furiously, working on commissions and creating new work for an exhibit at Artworks Gallery in Ware. Saturday, March 2nd was the Opening Reception and it was a lovely evening spent with old and new friends. Many thanks to all who came out to support me along with the new little gallery in Ware. And special thanks to my many collectors who've made it possible for me to keep doing what I love and all those who helped make this event a success. It was a great night that had me whirling all last week!  I'm looking forward to getting back on track and into my usual routine. Lots of new paintings to come!

Good morning! I'm excited and a little scared for my upcoming show because I have so many new paintings to finish! "New Braintree Thaw" is the last new one I'm going to post until after the reception on March 2nd. I want my new work to be a surprise . . . but don't worry, I'll still post some teasers. :)

In other news, I have a reception coming up in Cambridge at Coldwell Banker on Mass. Ave. on February 27th from 5:30 - 7:30pm. Many of my paintings are there along with work from two other Cambridge Art Association member artists: Carol Bajen-Gahm and Kale Baker. I hope you can join us.

It's been a busy week of painting. I've been juggling a few paintings this week including this one. It's an 8" x 8" of a farm that's just up the road from me. I actually love this time of year . . . the bare trees, patches of snow and the hope of spring.

I like to describe my process as "building a painting." As evident in the above images, my paintings evolve through layers and details, working broad to specifics. I have always worked a composition in its entirety from start to finish, so that I can compare values and shapes throughout the process rather than completing one little area at a time. At present, I'm interested in incorporating temperature and value into the early stages of my future paintings like I did in this one in a more systematic way. I've been striving to invoke more artistic intention into my renderings while giving my body of work more unity. I'm hoping to have stumbled upon something good. We'll see. You know what they say about the best of intentions . . . ha!  

While working on a couple of commissions (that I will share soon), my mind was wandering to trying a different approach to painting. I've been a longtime fan of the grisaille (and experimented a while back with some sepia monotone paintings) and so I decided to experiment with a sepia value underpainting (along with some hints toward temperature) as a way to begin my next watercolor.  I like what I've got so far.
