In September 2024, New England-based watercolor artist, Kara K. Bigda opened her very own brick and mortar gallery in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, at the relentless persuasion of a dear friend. And boy is she happy she did!
Kara graduated from Amherst College with a fine arts degree in 1991 and has worked in the insurance industry, education and manufacturing, yet always maintained her love of making art. In 2008, after 10 years of employment as an art teacher in the Quabbin Regional School District, Kara resigned from teaching in order to focus her time on painting. After experimenting with acrylics, design, collage and printmaking, she committed herself to watercolor in 2011 and has never veered.
While Kara spends her weekdays working as a Training Coordinator for a local manufacturing facility, she devotes her weekend afternoons to spending time painting and working at the gallery. For now, the space acts as her light-filled, remote studio and art gallery, where she displays & sells her original paintings, prints, notecards and other bits and bobs. However, Kara envisions creating a friendly and lively gallery/studio where she will host themed exhibits and events open to other artists, as well as providing a place where students can learn and become part of a welcoming art community through workshops & drop-in classes . . . and she is very excited about bringing all these ideas to life!
